The “Go local” phenomenon has arrived in Sidney, NY
We’re moving ahead with the Friday River Fest at a fast and furious pace. This past Sunday, yes on Mother’s day, I got a call from one of the local reporters for the Oneanta Daily Star who wanted to do a story on the upcoming River Fest. After a good hour conversation and interview I was told the story would run some time early this week. Early it was, I’m late getting this blog updated with this. It came out Monday morning with front page coverage! The “Go local” phenomenon has arrived in Sidney the article started out.
I’m ecstatic, John and Todd who I’m working with on this project are happy, I can’t say if they are bouncing off the walls as much as I am or not.
Then yesterday we put up the sign and made what we hope is the final preparations for Friday. Todd took these photos of me finishing up hanging the sign. Usually its me that is taking the photos instead of the other way around. While Todd and I were hanging the sign, John and Mr. B (I can’t recall his name off the top of my head) went to get various tables and chairs that a local church is letting us borrow. The village is letting us use some of its picnic tables. Everyone is being supportive of us, at least as long as we are doing all the work
.
Today I went out to get fliers put up at the local businesses to further the spread of the word to the local residents. I got such good feed back, and when I stopped into the local Radio station to bring them up to speed I was told that the word on the street for our area is the Friday River Fest. “Everyone is talking about it….” I was told.
Well I found that to be true too. Every place I stopped I heard “Wow, So this is the River Fest that I’ve been hearing about, I’ll be there!” “Hey Marge give me the tape we’ve got to hang this up!” “It’s about time someone started one of these here.” “I’m so glad that your doing this.” “Can I have more to hand out?”
I think I might have been swaying from my head being bloated with ego fodder.
Now I learn that Todd is working on the radio news reporter to get an interview done. This would be excellent if it happens. And today we got an article in the Walton Reporter. (I don’t have a copy of that article yet, but I’m working on it.)
We’ve created a buzz, now its time to close the circuit and see just how much juice we’re going to get.
I wouldn’t mind seeing this event turn into a weekly tourist attraction.
